Questions people ask.
General guideIs it safe to keep driving if the brakes grind?
Grinding often means the friction material is worn away and metal is rubbing on metal. That lengthens stopping distances and damages the rotors, so have the car looked at before driving it further than you must.
Why do my brakes squeal first thing in the morning?
Overnight moisture leaves a thin film of rust on the rotors, and the first few stops wipe it off. A squeal that goes away after a few stops is usually nothing to worry about. One that stays is worth an inspection.
Do pads and rotors always get replaced together?
That is decided by measurement with the wheel off: how thick the rotors still are, and whether they are scored or run out of true. The shop will tell you what it finds.
How often should brake fluid be changed?
Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time, which lowers its boiling point. The interval differs by vehicle: the maintenance schedule in your owner’s manual gives it.
